Fishing
Seneca County offers the best fishing opportunities in the Finger Lakes!
Cayuga Lake
is noted for its bass fishing. Tournament anglers travel from throughout the northeast for major tournaments offering thousands of dollars in prize money for the record catches that come from Cayuga Lake. Weekend anglers have just as good a chance at catching the lunker of a lifetime.
Seneca Lake
is noted for its trout fishing and the annual National Lake Trout Derby held on Memorial Day weekend that offers thousands in prize money for the largest lake trout, brown trout, rainbow trout and landlocked salmon caught from the lake during the three day event. For more information, visit www.laketroutderby.org. Trout fishing is a year-round activity on Seneca Lake.
Both lakes have diverse fisheries which include trout, salmon, northern pike, pickerel, large and smallmouth bass, yellow perch and an abundance of panfish.
The connecting Cayuga-Seneca Canal also has plenty of warm-water fishing opportunities.
